Any major renovation that increases your property’s value

Some examples of capital improvements include adding a new bedroom, expanding a kitchen, or upgrading the electrical wiring. Repairs and normal maintenance on a home, such as replacing a broken window or fixing a hole in the roof don’t qualify as capital improvements.
